Han Dynasty, 206 BC-220 AD. A ceramic vessel with piriform body, waisted neck and lipped rim; shallow domes to top of rim, raised concentric circumferential bands to the shoulder and body, two zoomorphic 'mock' handles comprising animal-head plaques holding round-section hoops; covered in a green glaze. 3.8 kg, 34.5cm (13 1/2"). From the collection of an American lady living in London; acquired before 2000. Hu jars were used for storage of wine and foodstuffs for the afterlife. Fine condition.
