provenance::From the estate of a Tucson, Arizona physician. His collection was acquired in San Francisco in the 1970s from several prominent galleries. A note retained with the piece (see image) states Shibata. In 1977, Daibutsu Gallery in San Francisco sold several carvings from the collection of Ichiro Shibata, raising the possibility that this carving might have originated from that collection. measurements::Guanyin: 3 1/2" long x 2 1/4" wide x 3 1/8” high (4 1/4" high on the stand); custom stand: 4” long x 3” wide x 1 1/4” high; weight of figure: 214 grams (7 1/2 oz).
