Qianlong (1736-1795), the compressed globular body rising from a short spreading gilt foot to a short neck with everted gilt rim, set at the shoulder with a pair of stylised dragon handles, brightly decorated around the exterior with taotie masks surrounded by leafy scrolling lotus reserved on a turquoise ground divided by vertical flanges with key frets, the gilt, pierced, domed cover finely decorated with scrolling lotus and lotus petals, surmounted by a bud-shaped finial similarly decorated, censer 17.5cm long, 622.9goverall 17.5cm high, 869.5g (2)Provenance: Private collection, London;inherited from grandparents, who travelled and lived in the East in the 1940s and thence by descent.清乾隆 铜胎掐丝珐琅缠枝莲饕餮纹盖炉Condition report: Lid - interior rim dented, knop loose and dented. Censer - Surface scratches, gilt rubbed. A small hole to base. Small holes to top of handles, possibly missing decoration. Flanges loose. Footrim dented.
