20TH CENTURY The insect naturalistically rendered and with a fully articulated body, the limbs, head and wings constructed of moving parts, the wings incised with thin lines, signed Kozan for Takase Torakichi (1869-1934), approx. 15cm. Takase Torakichi or Kozan (1869-1934) started working in the metalwork department of Ikeda Seisuke's company in Kyoto in 1887, studying under Tomiki Isuke. In 1893, he set up his own business selling artworks both domestically and internationally. In 1910, the Japanese Crown Prince travelled to Kyoto and purchased several of his jizai okimono.
