A mid 18th century ebonised quarter repeating table timepiece
Joseph Willamson, LondonThe inverted caddy top with turned handle over a bold cornice and arched glazed side apertures to a moulded base on block feet, the 6 inch arched brass dial with mask spandrels framing the subsidiary date dial in the arch with central signature, the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half-quarter marks, finely matted centre with chamfered mock pendulum aperture (the chamfered edge engraved with a wheatear border), and ringed winding square, the single gut fusee movement with knopped and finned pillars, pivoted verge escapement to a short pendulum with facetted rod, repeating the hours and quarters on three bells, the backplate with double wheatear border framing the symmetrical pattern of foliate scrolls incorporating a pair of birds and a standing cherub 43cms (17ins) high
