拍品描述 翻译
Description Norbert Michael Schr?dl (1816 Schwechat - 1890 Dresden). After a design by Ernst Rietschel (1804-1861) from 1857. Carved ivory. Bust of the artist with his head turned slightly to the right. Height 14cm. On the back inscribed N. Schr?dl fe. Provenance: Private collection Southern Germany. Norbert Michael Schr?dl was born in 1803 in Schwechat, lower Austria, as the son of an ironmonge. He received his training as a carver at the workshop of the Viennese sculptor Friedrich Schmidt. Afterwards Schr?dl studied sculpture at the viennese Academy of Fine Arts in 1833 and 1834. In 1841 the artist exhibited his first ivory portrait. Schr?dl quickly made a name for himself as an ivory carver. Among his first clients were members of the Imperial Family. In 1848 he started to travel through Europe. Stops were for example Dresden, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Frankfurt or Paris. He received numerous commissions from high-ranking personalities, such as members of the Tsar family, the Duke of Hamilton, the Rothschild family, as well as Emperor Napoléon III, for whom he created several goblets. The bust of Daniel Rauch was presumably created in three versions. One went to the King of Prussia, one to Princess Helene and a third version to an English envoy. Works by Norbert Michael Schr?dl can be found for example in the collection of the Historical Museum of Vienna or the ?sterreichische Gallerie.
