Paul Scheurich introduced the group 'Dame with Moor' at the autumn exhibition of the Berlin Secession in 1917. He got the commission for it privately, from the Berlin banker's daughter Nora Allatini, whose original figurine is today in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Allatini insisted on a limitation of the design to only 2 pieces and declined an offer to sell the design to the Meissen manufactory. This incident was a main reason for Scheurich's contractual engagement with the manufactory, which then soon followed. The rights to the model of the figurine were only acquired years later. The two original mouldings were decorated by the designer himself. A striking feature is Scheurich's typical way of using colour, in which the white of the porcelain dominates and the figure's plastic expression is enhanced by carefully applied, delicate colour accents.
