A four-case lacquer inroEdo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th centuryOf lenticular form, bearing a roiro-nuri ground, decorated in gold, silver and coloured takamaki-e, e-nashiji, kirikane and hiramaki-e with a fox in disguise as an itinerant nun, a rat perched on a rock, the crescent moon and autumn plants in the foreground, the interior with gold fundame rims and gold nashiji lacquer risers and interiors; signed on the base Mototada and with a kao; fitted with a dark hardwood ojime 3 3/8in (8.5cm) high
