Also known as the ‘black pottery culture’, the Longshan culture, of north and northeast China is best known for its thin, hard, black-burnished potteries of clean, angular outline. With new ’ fast wheel’ technology and high temperature kilns, Longshan potters created one of the finest wares of the Neolithic era.
A similar black pottery ware was excavated at Jiaozhou, Shandong Province, and was published in The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics, vol. 1: Neolithic Period, Shanghai: Shanghai People’s Arts Publishing, 2000 pl. 204.
