modelled in an almost triangular form with a cylindrical upturned tail that forms the opening to the vessel; the long neck supports a small alert head with pierced eyes. It stands on short thick legs and solid feet.
A similar red pottery bid was excavated in Shangguandi, Gansu Province and is now in Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture Museum, as illustrated in The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics, vol. 1: Neolithic Period, Shanghai: Shanghai People’s Arts Publishing, 2000 no. 149.
