A Burnished Black Pottery Pig, Hemudu Culture (5000-3300 BC): Length: 9.5cm
almost entirely covered with a layer of slip. The body is heavy, with short legs and a squared off snout. A prominent spinal ridge runs from the snout to the hindquarters, but there is no proper tail. A pair of less prominent ridges run from behind the streamlined ears and fade out near the animal’s rear end. Eyes are incised just below the front of the ears, while the mouth is a superficial incision across the lowest quarter of the snout. Rattles when shaken
