A fine Chinese spinach green jade censer, Qing dynasty, 18th/19th Century, of archaistic form, the oval body with a stylised leopard handle, the other handle of Buddhist lion and scroll form, carved with a central band of formal scrolls centered by stylised feline masks, the outer rim finely engraved with scrolls, 16.5 x 8 x 6cms high. Provenance: Major JHM Shaw Stewart (1831 – 1908) and then by direct family descent. This piece, along with other items previously sold at auction, was collected by Major Shaw Stewart during his Army Service in China in the 1860s.
