PROVENANCE: From The Estate of David George Glen (1924-2016) of Delaware, raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of William and Agnes Glen. His formal education was completed at Daniels Stewarts College, Edinburgh, after which he entered the field of medicine. He was a certified rehabilitation specialist, serving in military and civilian hospitals in the United Kingdom. From 1942 to 1945, he served in the Royal Air Force.
In 1955 David immigrated to the United States, becoming a citizen in 1961.
RARE Chinese RU ware tripod censer, finely potted in form of a deep bowl vessel, tapered cylindrical shape, with wide broad cavetto leading to rounded sides, the waisted and short neck compromising the wide flat opening. Raised on three short legs. The design is simple yet elegant. The glaze covered the entire vessel, in pale lavender glaze with crackle as crab's claw markings and an ash-gray body, leaving the rim bare of glaze with darker lining to the top of rim. A single network of wide dark grey crackles along the surfaces. The ware base characterized with fine fire support marks, resembling sesame seeds pattern. The RU ware brush washer preciously displayed upon a carved hardwood stand in double throne motif. Probably from Song Dynasty Period or later. With an Inventory Tag label on base.
