PROVENANCE: From Private estate collections of David Frederick Boyd, of Marietta, Georgia (1935 - 2018). Served in the United States Army, thereafter, employed by a fortune 500 company and remained there for the rest of his working career. He is admired for Habitat for Humanity activist and a prominent antiques collector, mostly Chinese Antiques and European furniture at his large Victorian house in Georgia.
Extraorginally, Chinese Qing Dynasty period, Blue & white dragon reward vase. Finest porcelain potted in reward shape vase, thick and tall, globular lower body, tapered gracefully toward straight tall cylindrical neck, with thick wide flaring mouth rim, raised on a short thick round foot base with slight concave. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the blue fine color, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. The collar banded with arrays of tropical leaves patterns, repeating taotie mask and interlocking key fret. Blue and white porcelain in Chinese it is called Qing Hua Ci. It is the most important variety of China’s porcelain. It was originated in the Yuan Dynasty. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The glaze is seamless and gives off a beautiful luster, with the colors maintaining excellent vibrancy. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
Mark on base, a six under glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of YongZheng Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
