PROVENANCE: From Private estate collections of David Frederick Boyd, of Marietta, Georgia (1935 - 2018). Served in the United States Army, thereafter, employed by a fortune 500 company and remained there for the rest of his working career. He is admired for Habitat for Humanity activist and a prominent antiques collector, mostly Chinese Antiques and European furniture at his large Victorian house in Georgia.
Stunning, Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Red dragon & blue clouds on stands. Potted with a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward flaring mouth rim, raised on a small round, with slight concave footing. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the ruby red and cobalt blue fine color, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. Red is the most important variety of China’s porcelain. It was originated in the Qing Dynasty. The red color of the packet symbolizes good luck, corresponding with fire, symbolizes good fortune and joy. And Blue stands for healing, trust and long life. Shades of green/blue are used to decorate homes for longevity and harmony. Elegantly and smooth presented upon a carved zitan hardwood stand with archaic ruyi pattern, created Majestic bowls. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
Mark on base, a six under glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of QianLong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
