PROVENANCE: From Private estate collections of David Frederick Boyd, of Marietta, Georgia (1935 - 2018). Served in the United States Army, thereafter, employed by a fortune 500 company and remained there for the rest of his working career. He is admired for Habitat for Humanity activist and a prominent antiques collector, mostly Chinese Antiques and European furniture at his large Victorian house in Georgia.
Chinese Yuan Dynasty Period, Blue & white dragon with foo Dog handles censer. Potted in shallow vessel form, thick, large and deep, globular body, slight oval, heavy on lower body, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, tall cylindrical neck, with straight open lip, emerge foo dogs flanked from upper mouth rim to shoulder create majestic handle, raised with short three elephant legs. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the cobalt blue, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
