PROVENANCE: From Private collections of Mr. Peter Lyon (1938-2016), After graduation in 1959 he joined the military and was trained as a fighter pilot for the Marine corp. Retiring from the military his next career was as a commercial pilot for Pan American and United Airlines flying 747 aircraft in the pacific and orient. During his layovers he searched for fine porcelains which he proudly added to his private collection.
Fine, Chinese Yuan Dynasty Period, wine pot. The Porcelain potted in wine cup, of inverted bell form, deep curved side, bulbous lower body steep round straight upward to straight opening mouth rim, with curved spout flanked on the collar, outward at the wide mouth rim, a looped handles giving a balance on the opposite sides, dome lid reverse plate with dog finial bud, raised on short rectangle footed ring. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in cobalt blue underglazed, depicted of scrolling ruyi and auspicious motief. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned. The porcelain displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely glazed exterior. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
