Fine Chinese Export Armorial Plate, Late 18th Century This excellent octagonal piece has a coat of arms that where the Latin motto translates roughly as ?Through Many Difficulties?. Intended to be the same as those on a service made about five years earlier for Captain William Smith, who married Sarah Cazalet. The service could have been for his brother in 1792-1794. The arms are of Smith possibly aligning with a French family, c. 1798.
