Bronze India, Bengal, 18th century Dimensions: Height 26,5 cm by 15 cm Weight: 2714 grams A depiction of the Hindu Goddess of War standing on a lion with her right leg, the other leg bent standing above Mahishasura, the buffalo demon, who is crouching beneath her on one knee, his right elbow in the grip of the lion's sharp teeth. The buffalo head is lying on the floor. The Goddess is dressed in a short dhoti with decorations, a thread on her chest and big necklaces around her neck. Her ten arms are also adorned with armlets, six arms are partly missing. The arms are fanning out to the sides holding weapons like a big sword or a battle hatchet. The face is gazing at the sky victoriously, the hair decorated with a diamond jewel and two rings. Two female disciples flank the goddess.
