Bronze Thailand, 14th to 15th century, Ayutthaya - U Thong 1 Style Dimensions: Height 47 cm by 26 cm Weight: 8.895 grams This statue is an exquisite example of the U Thong style, which flourished between the 12-15th century. These include the hairline between the forehead and curls, a rather square face, fingers of different length, a simple concave base, the robe ends in a long flap over the left shoulder. The ushnisha is an elongated flame, a characteristic of later U Thong style. The expression is stern with big lips and a prominent nose. Most U Thong sculptures are shown in this position, calling the earth to witness or subduing Mara, otherwise also standing with the hands in the gesture of dispelling fear.
