Bronze Java, 12th century Dimensions: Height 13 cm by 8 cm Weight: 592 grams Green Tara, probably the most popular of the 21 different emanations of Tara, is here seated on a square base with reverse lotus petals, one foot drawn to the body and the other supported on an extra lotus flower stemming from the base. Her right hand is placed on the leg with palm facing up showing the varada mudra and a little object, possibly a lotus flower seed. The other hand is lifted in front of the heart holding the stem of a lotus flower between thumb and middle finger. She is dressed in a striped dhoti fastened with a waistband, her torso is adorned with armlets, a big necklace and bracelets. Big ear pendants hang down onto her shoulders, a large tiara with dangles sits on her head enclosing the chignon with flaming top.
