China, 19th century. The deep plate painted in underglaze blue on the show side with a peacock perched in a flowering branch within a double circle, the wide wall with a further double circle and the outer wall glazed in an iron-red hue. Apocryphal six-character Xuande reign mark within a double circle on the underside.
Condition: Broken in two and repaired with staples. Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by a third-generation member of the Holzapfel family after 1995 and has remained in the family ever since.
