Vietnam, c. 1900. Depicting Buddha Shakyamuni as a young boy with a smooth bald head, a third eye, sensitively crafted features, one hand pointing towards the earth and the other towards the sky and standing on a lotus base. The figure is covered in gilt lacquer with the black-lacquered layer underneath visible in some areas. The base and the inside of the robe are lacquered in red.
Condition: The lacquer attractively worn throughout. One arm is restored. Provenance: Hungarian private collection.
