Provenance Consigned by the artist's niece. Artist Biography: Dean Richardson (b. 1931) was a prolific American painter of the post-war period. His subject matter focused particularly on icons "that have shaped American culture," from Native American heroes, such as the one portrayed in his Warrior Series, of which one painting sold with Oakridge in October 2019, and baseball, as in the "Baseball Field" which also sold in our October 2019 auction. His painting is characterized by impressionistic forms and thick brushstrokes, which emphasize the introspective intent of his works. In the words of his official biography, "Richardson's paintings force us to examine our past no matter how painful or triumphant it may have been, and look to the future with better understanding and tolerance towards man and nature."
