Description A (lot of 4) Chinese Export Famille Rose dishes, 18th century: the first plate centering Apollo as a child driving a horse drawn chariot above a black grissaille decorated cloud formation with a scorpio form coat of arms off center to the right; a second decorated with a flower arrangement and a gourd; two of octagonal form including a bowl enameled decorated with giant peonies and a plate decorated with birds and butterfly in a garden landscape of bamboo and rocks, enclosed in grisaille border headed by wing swept bird passant arms of De Saumerez made for Colonel Mathew De Saumerez of the Guernsey Militia (Howard, Armorial Porcelain, page 275); the largest 1.5"h x 9"d [note: three of dishes are extensively repaired with the exception of the De Saumerez armorial plate]
