Description EXTRAORDINARY FIGURE OF BUDDHA AMITAYUS. Tibet. 17th/18th c. or earlier. Light bronze with residue of fire gilding and cultic painting. The Buddha of Longevity sitting in devout posture in padmasana. Both hands rest in dhyana mudra in his lap and hold the Amrita vessel. The double lotus base is made of thin gilded copper bronze and did not originally belong to the figure. However, like the figure it is designed in an elegant manner and therefore complements it in an appropriate way. Base closed and possibly ritually filled. 451g. H.9.2cm, with pedestal 12.5cm. Condition B. Amrita vessel broken off, reattached. Residue of glue. Upper body bent. Provenance: Collection Emil Ball (1907-2008). Acquired locally in the 1970s-90s.
