Description A rare ruby-ground 'famille-rose' porcelain vase, six character Qianlong red seal mark probably of the period. Neck and shoulder decorated with good luck symbols. Main composition shows the terrace of a house which overlooks a landscape and pavilion opposite a river. Children playing on terrace. Tall pine trees and rocks near edge of terrace. Bottom of vase same decoration as on neck and shoulder. Outside of foot has fret design in blue all between ruyi-head borders at foot and shoulder, the latter rising to a waisted neck, the ruby-enamelled ground contrasting with the bright enamels of the scrolling lotus motifs, with gilding at the rim and top of keyfret foot, the interior and base glazed turquoise, the base inscribed in red with a six-character reign mark reserved on a white ground 11 1/8"H x 6 1/2"D. Condition: Rim gilt loss. Dirt inside the vase. Overall in good condition. Provenance: Provenance: From the Estate of Delia Macomb Spencer Field (1853-1937), second wife of Marshall Field, and by descent in her niece Catherine Spencer Eddy Beveridge’s family. Purchased in 1922.
