Note: Gallia refers to a new metal alloy that the second generation of the Christofle family business trademarked. They discovered that this new metal was comparable to pewter but was less expensive to make and plate, was more diuturnal, and was perfect for the demands of manufacturing. Their creation of the Gallia line of metal started yet another market of high caliber table decorations and flatwares at reasonable prices. The French Coq over GALLIA stamped mark has been used since 1937. The squared O (Orfèvrerie) and C (Christofle) flanking the Chess Knight's horse head is a quality mark used since 1935 and was ended in 1985.
