Description A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI STYLE AUBUSSON UPHOLSTERED PARCEL GILT AND GRAY LACQUERED FAUTEUILS EN CABRIOLET, LATE 19TH CENTURY, each with a Chapeau de Gendarme form crestrail carved with leaf-tip banding continuing on the tapering rectangular backrest frame, enclosing a padded back covered in silk and wool tapestry woven in colors and depicting a youth sounding his hunting horn within an autumnal landscape enclosed by floral garlands and raspberry red drapery swags, above a bowed seat centering Aesop's "Hare and Tortoise" within similar floral and raspberry drapery, or a peasant maiden carrying her berry filled pail within a winter landscape and similar drapery swags, above a bowel seat centering an old bull before an audience of three animals within a landscape and matching floral with drapery swag, each above brass nailing and leaf-tip carved seat rail, flanked by scrolling padded arms on curved supports of reed-and-ball over acanthus leaf details, above fluted panels enclosing fleur d'asperges on block margeurites and raised on twist fluted legs ending in foliate wrapped collars on toupie feet. Height: 35" Width: 23 1/4" Depth: 20" Condition Report Each in good condition for French chairs of this age, use and materials including but not limited to expected age cracks, small chips, marks and small scratches from use, gilding wear and flaking as well as surface buildup throughout. The tapestry upholstery has faded, has splits, tears, old repairs, some areas of normal surface fraying, dryness, old stains, and dust buildup throughout.
