Description A WILLIAM AND MARY GILT AND BLACK JAPANNED CHEST ON STAND, EARLY 18TH CENTURY, the rectangular cornice cavetto with gilt leafy floral clusters above a frieze drawer centering blossoming foliage and flying geese, over two short drawers depicting mythical scenes and three graduated long drawers with figures in traditional attire at various pursuits, withinside panels of a long legged bird foraging beneath a tall bamboo stalk before a distant fence, set on a conforming stand enclosed by molded trim over one short drawer flanked by two squared deep drawers and each similarly decorated, above an apron with two low arches centering a square tipped ogee arch and each raised on later square form legs joined by a box form stretcher of variously shaped arches centering one topped by a brass urn form finial.
