Description A PHILIP AND KELVIN LAVERNE ENAMELED AND PATINATED BRONZE SIDE TABLE, "After Picasso," SIGNED, 1970s, the circular pewter plated and textured top centering an orange enameled kneeling figure opposite a black patinated figure with splotches of teal and mauve above a leaning bearded mask, signed "PHILIP & KELVIN LAVERNE / Après Picasso,"?on a cylindrical shaft mounted with shaped and pierced flanges raised on a conforming base, verso top original printed paper label "PhilipLaVerne Galleries Ltd. / WORKS of ART / 46 EAST 57th STREET, NEW YORK, NEW YORK 10022 / blue typed SHIP TO:," information. Height: 18" Diameter: 17 3/4" Note: Philip (1907-1987) and Kelvin (b. 1937) LaVerne, a remarkable father and son team whose talented work might be defined as artisan furniture yet this does not seem appropriate for the fine quality and originality of design, materials, and construction found in each of their tables, cabinets, and pedestals. Their use of bronze with various patinations, textures, and applications resulted from years of experimentation including burying bronze slabs in certain treated soils for lengthy periods. The "Après Picasso" side table offered here exhibits many of their talents successfully combined in a veritable sculptural ode to Picasso. Condition Report Good condition with some normal light wear along base and expected surface buildup in areas throughout.
