Two 19th century original hand-drawn Atlas maps, the first map titled South America, an inscription to the reverse states 'begun February 24th 1850 and finished January 15th 1861, approx 34 w x 42 h cms; the second map titled Italy, an inscription to the reverse states 'begun 3rd December 1839 to January 7th 1860' signed A.G Whitby. It is difficult to ascertain if these are hand-drawn copies of existing maps found in an Atlas or indeed whether they form part of a long-term survey of these regions for an Atlas.
