Description Stunning, Chinese 14th C. Ming Dynasty Period, Blue and white plus red peony jar. Sturdy potted porcelain can in a large globular shape, with robust shoulder region curving, shallow basin circumscribed with a curvaceous wall of porcelain, supported the wide gallery opening, within robust shoulder region curving into a feminine waist that extends gently tapered toward the flat base, all the way to the bottom forming the raised circular base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in iron red underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The main body delicately fine depicted with peony flowers blooms interspersed with scrolling fresh foliage , enclosed with triple fine blue rings lines banded. Scrolling interlocking ruyi clouds decorated on the shoulder, geometric pattern decorated on the upper neck rim and the foot base rim adorned with auspicious pattern, enclosed with triple fine blue rings lines banded. The peony is the unofficial Chinese National Flower. It stands as a symbol of spring and female beauty and reproduction. It also represents richness, honor and high social class. It is a favored flower for the 12th wedding anniversary. Peonies from Luoyang are considered the best in the country and are showcased in a festival held in Luoyang in April or May of each year.
