The rounded shallow sides rising from a short ring foot, the interior molded with a central chrysanthemum encircled by two floral and foliate bands and covered in a soft green glaze darkening in the recesses, the exterior covered with an amber glaze partially covering a black ink inscription and stopping above the foot, revealing the pale buff body.Provenance: Sotheby's Amsterdam, 7 December 1998, lot 461, by repute. He has authored hundreds of articles and several books on Dutch fine and decorative arts spanning from the Middle Ages to the modern era. In 2013, he published an extensive study of Chinese riding gear in “Dragon & Horse, Saddle Rugs and Other Horse Tack from China and Beyond”.
