Description 19th century AD or earlier. A bronze figure of the Naga serpent deity modelled with a coiled body on a circular base with perpendicular socket, separate upright neck with flared hood and seven serpent heads, each with protruding forked tongue and knop finial above; base with two lateral stepped flanges each supporting a cow with decorative headband and cover. 3.7 kg, 43cm (17"). Property of a London gentleman; previously from a French private collection, 1980s. The piece is almost certainly a mount for a separate figure of Buddha who often appears sheltering beneath the cowl of the seven-headed Naga serpent deity. [No Reserve]
