Figure: h.48,5 cm, marble base (min. chips): h. 10 cm. - German sculptor, studied at the K?nigliche Akademie der Künste und der Kunstgewerbeschule in Berlin. Schmidt-Hofer was member of the Reichsverband Bildender Künstler and before the First World War a very busy artist with many exhibitions in the most important art galleries in Europe. Until 1914 he stayed in Paris, after returning to Berlin he lived in poorest conditions until his death. He produced a number of sculptures of heros, dancers, warriors and workers and ranks among the most productive German sculptors between Neoclassicism and Art Déco.
