To bid on this lot, please contact us at to register to bid on this lot. A Chinese gilt bronze Medicine Buddha or Bhaisajyaguru dating from the Yongle or Xuande periods of the Ming dynasty. The Buddha sits in dhyanasana on a double lotus pedestal. His right hand holds a myrobalan fruit, and his left hand sits in his lap, palm up. He wears a robe with borders of lotus tracery covering both shoulders. He is adorned with a crown over his bun and finial, earrings, and bracelets. Dimensions are: 16 inches tall X 10 inches wide, 40.6 cm X 25.4 cm. Weight: 7050 grams. All measurements are approximate.

Condition Report There is wear to the gilt, and the medicine bowl is missing. It is in overall good condition.

Notes Reference: A similar gilt bronze Medicine Buddha dating from the Yongle period was sold at Christie's New York on March 19, 2014, as lot 1624. A similar gilt bronze Medicine Buddha dating from the Ming dynasty was sold by the China Guardian Auction Company on December 1, 2020, as lot 2368. A similar gilt bronze Medicine Buddha dating from the Ming dynasty resides in the Yonghe Temple in Beijing, and it has been published in "The Collection of Lama Temple Buddha Statues," Beijing Publishing House, 2001, pg. 51.
