Description A Chinese black-lacquered scholar's box inlaid with mother of pearl and dating from the 17th century. The front and top of the box feature landscape scenes of children playing, while the sides of the box feature floral tracery with bats. The interior of the box has four drawers and features floral tracery. Dimensions are: 12 1/2 inches tall X 11 1/4 inches wide X 8 inches deep, 31.8 cm X 28.6 cm X 20.3 cm. Condition Report There are significant areas of loss to the mother of pearl and chipping to the lacquer. The bottom of the box has been overpainted and there is separation at its seams.
