PROVENANCE: From the Collections of Franklin Wood (1924-2019) Cartersville, GA. Franklin was born in a small farmhouse near White GA in 1924. After spending his early childhood on the family farm the family moved to the City of Cartersville where he attended school graduating in 1942. Franklin entered the Navy as a cadet aviator. On March 3, 1943, John was commissioned an Ensign and received his Wings of Gold, becoming one of the Navy's youngest naval aviators. In 1947, Franklin was retired from the Navy. He was a civilian flight instructor, supervisor and squadron commander in the Primary Training Squadron Flying Training Air Force. He met his wife Ying Su while she was attending flight training safety courses. Ying Su came from a prominent family in China. Her family blessed her marriage with numerous pieces of porcelains and Jade. The items in this sale are from her collection. Dimensions (cm): Length: 49 Width: 49 Height: 26Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Period Huanghuali dressing Cabinets. The Cabinet is made of a single piece of first-class hardwood, short rectangles with pair panel doors. The box is mounted with ruyi-shaped fittings, lock plate and the upper mate carved with ruyi medallion and interlocking wanli motif. The four legs are fully decorated with floral designs, ending with inward-curving horse hoof feet. The Huanghuali wood displays a dense hardwood, with deep-brown strikes over golden-black shades tone and translucent shimmering surface with abstractly figured patterns and sweet fragrance of huali distinguishes it from the similar appearing but pungent-adored hongmu. It is intact, with exquisite mortise-tenon technique.
