Dealers in Works of Art & Antiques, Curios, Armor, Plate, China, Jewels, etc. Dimensions: 14-1/8" H x 8-1/2" Diam.Chinese Qing Dynasty blue and white archaic serpent Zun vase. A bulbous body, tapering toward tall cylindrical neck supporting the flaring rim, raised on concaved foot base. Two an elephant's trunk ears flanked on the neck. The shape is uniformly proportioned. hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The neck decorated with phoenix tails and geometric pattern, banded with cresting wavy Lishui water on the upper neck mouth rim and key fret pattern on the lower neck rim. Medallion archaic flying phoenix with scrolling ruyi clouds decorated on the shoulder. The main body decorated in cobalt blue hand painting of archaic serpent motif shaped Chinese calligraphy, banded tape with double fine blue line rings. The color in blue and white balanced, elegant and exquisite. The bottom forms a substantial ring-base with a flat offset face. There is not any overlap of the outlines, its well carved, clear, subtle, and distinct. The clay is fine and exquisite, the glaze smooth, brilliant with a moist appearance, the finishing meticulous. The under-base bears a reign mark, a six underglaze blue seal script characters reign mark, Made In The Years of Qianlong Reign Period of The Great Qing Dynasty.
