PROVENANCE: Private (Estate) collections of Jack J. Woo, by inheritance. Dimensions: 7.5"L x 12.5"HChinese Qing Dynasty Period, Qianlong blue & white wrapped floral motif porcelain meiping jar. The porcelain shaped into a traditional Meiping form, large, thick and tall potted, wide body on shoulder, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, with emerging slight flaring mouth rim, raised on splayed round foot base, with slight concave. All reserved in hand painting ornamentations, rendered in clean white under glazed ground color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The main belly adorned with abundant lotus flowers blooms interspersed scrolling interlocking foliage, banded with Geometric rectangles petals on the foot base rim and repeating interlocking taotie mask on the upper mouth rim, enclosed with double fine rings. Lotus is one of the most significant flowers in the Chinese culture. It symbolizes the holy seat of Buddha. Because the flower rises from the mud and blooms in exquisite beauty it symbolizes perfection and purity of both the heart and mind. It also represents long life and honor. The lotus flower is depicted in Chinese art, poetry and architecture. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the under glaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. Mark on under base, a six under glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Qianlong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
