Dimensions: 12.5in H x 6.125in W x 6.125in DChinese Ming Dynasty Period, Wanli blue & white dragon Meiping jar. The porcelain shaped into a traditional Meiping form, thick potted, with a narrow base, wide body, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, with emerging slight ring line mouth rim, raised on round flat foot base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The main body adorned with snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a cobalt blue color dragon squama rounded the bowl to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames. The foot rim decorated with geometric pattern, flowers blooms, geometric pattern festooned on the shoulder, and upturning lappets on the neck. Each section banded and enclosed with double fine blue rings. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
