All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The Porcelain potted thick, in rectangle flat base, slight tall, the top carved like three mountain rock where the middle is higher than the left and the right side. The three mountain rock and foot base decorated with snarling huge five claws imperial dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-Shui waves in a cobalt blue color dragon squama rounded the porcelain pen rest. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The valley between the three mountain rocks is used as resting of the pen. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. The glaze appearance on the blue painting resembled the texture of an orange peel "ju-pi" (chu-p'i) or a d chicken skin. The underside bears reign mark, a horizontal six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double rectangular frame borders, Made In The Years of Wanli Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
