Description A rare and striking Lu Mien Yao cotton saddle cushion with graphically bold and stunning applique and piping, northern Laos or Thailand, early 20th century. During the wedding festivities the bride comes by horseback into the village of her prospective husband seated on a blanket covered by this cotton cover decorated with auspicious symbols. The cloth is then taken by the bride to kneel in front of the priest when paying respect to her husband's family and her new clan ancestors. Reference: Jess G.
