注脚
尼泊爾 十八世紀 難近母銅像二尊These finely cast plaques depict two manifestations of the Hindu goddess Durga, a powerful incarnation of the Mother Goddess (Devi). According to the Garuda Purana she can have four, eight, twelve, eighteen, or twenty-eight arms, and Durga is represented in many ways in Nepal. She is often shown standing in pratyalidhasana, a dramatic pose with one foot raised and the other extended, as in both panels. In one, she steps on her lion mount while holding a sword, shield, and bowl, and in the other she steps on Garuda while holding a discus, staff, and bowl. Compare the elongated lotus petals and stylized flame mandorla to a repoussé panel of Durga sold at Bonhams, New York, 13 March 2017, lot 3050. Provenance Soo Tze Orientique, Melbourne, 2000s
