An archaistic pale celadon jade 'dragon' vase
Qing dynasty, 19th century
清十九世紀 青白玉雕雙龍戲珠仿古饕餮紋瓶
of flattened baluster form set over a waisted and stepped foot, the body carved in low relief with abstracted taotie masks, the neck encircled by upright cicada lappets beneath a keyfret band at the rim, a further keyfret band encircling the foot, one narrow side of the vase with a lively chilong carved in the round and clambering up the neck and peering over the mouth, at the opposite side a second openwork chilong climbing from the foot of the vessel towards a three-dimensional 'Flaming Pearl' floating on a cloud above, the pale translucent green stone with faint icy and beige inclusions
