About the artist: Ukrainian painter. Honored Artist of Ukraine.
Vladimir Fedorovich Sidoruk was born on January 3, 1925 in a village of Rzhishchev near Kiev in a peasant family.
From 1939 to 1941, the future artist studied at the Taras Shevchenko Republican Art School in Kiev. His teachers were Ivan Hvorostetsky (a student of F. Krichevsky) and George Kiyanchenko. The influence of these masters, a high level of teaching will allow Vladimir, even without receiving a higher art education, to become an outstanding painter.
During the Great Patriotic War, he served as an artist at the Stanislavsky transit point of the regional military registration and enlistment office.
After demobilization, in September 1945, Vladimir Sidoruk remained in the city of Stanislav (now Ivano-Frankivsk), where he was in charge of a decorative workshop and at the same time worked as a director of the Stanislavsky Music and Drama Theater named after I.Franko. He designed the performances “Stolen Happiness” by I. Franko, “Taras Bulba” by N. Gogol, “Nazar Stodol” by T. Shevchenko. Preparatory drawings for these performances, watercolor sketches have been preserved.
Vladimir Sidoruk loved to draw from life. During his creative trips to the Hutsul region, he is fond of local flavor. The consequence of these creative trips were portraits of “Gutsul Ksenia”, “Dovbush”, “Portrait of Fedkovich”, “Turn from the meadow”.
In the same period, the artist performed three paintings “Marco Cheremshina mid-student Vidnya”, “Panorama of the village of Kobaki” and “Sadiba Mark Cheremshini” for the literary and memorial museum of the writer. Sidoruk also performed twenty-five watercolor illustrations of the works of Cheremshina, which were exhibited in 1949 at the exhibition in Stanislav.
In 1950, the painter was offered to join the Kiev Cooperative Association of Artists and he and his family returned to his native Kiev region and settled in the city of Irpin.
In the years 1951-1953 V. Sidoruk continues to work on creating the image of M. Cheremshina, writes for the Stanislavsky Art Museum the canvas “The funeral of Mark Cheremshini”. In 1954, by order of the literary and memorial museum of Y. Fedkovich in Chernivtsi, he wrote the painting "Miting on the graves of Yury Fedkovich in the day of revival."
During the years 1955-1960 the artist created six paintings for the museum-estate of the surgeon Nikolai Pirogov.
A characteristic feature of the creative method of the master was the writing of landscape compositions from nature, not coming off. He wrote inspirationally and quickly, wanting to keep the first feelings and emotions from what he saw. He expressed his vision of nature with the help of decorative, rich and at the same time refined painting.
A special place in the artist’s creative heritage is occupied by thematic works. The painter is attracted by the legendary events of the period of Kievan Rus, the victorious struggle of the Ukrainian people led by B. Khmelnitsky. V.F.Sidoruk writes canvases dedicated to the life of Taras Shevchenko.
With great enthusiasm and love, the artist creates paintings on Cossack themes: “Stop the Cossacks at the Battle of Berestechkom”, “Maxim Krivonis” (1992). The writing of these works was preceded by a long preparatory work. Vladimir Fedorovich carefully studied Ukrainian history, canvases by I. Repin, A. Murashko, N. Samokish, M. Deregus.
Art historians mark another line in the work of V.F. Sidoruk. In it, the artist gives preference to purely picturesque forms, creating abstractionist canvases. These paintings are striking in their particular picturesqueness, unusually beautiful and complex coloring and unsolved, veiled meaning. The most expressive of them: “La Gorda Ra-Meneis. (3 teacher's fantasies of Forest of Ukraine) ”,“ Dikansky devil ”,“ Nich before Rizdv. (Demons) ”,“ Tsarivna v Kristaliev trun? ”,“ Knight in tiger skin ”,“ Carmen. (Evening carnival) "," Mannequins. (Behind Toulouse Lautrec) "," On the topic of Mary Stuart "," Remain the victim. (Zh?nka after atomic disaster). "
The artist worked easily, quickly, freely solved compositional problems. As eyewitnesses recall, first he laid the entire canvas with blue paint, placed objects, verified the relationship, and then saturated the created composition with all the wealth of colors seen in nature. In this method of work, the best features of the domestic academic school were embodied, the faithful follower of which Vladimir Fedorovich Sidoruk remained all his life.
Since 1954 - an active participant in republican, all-Union and foreign art exhibitions.
Since 1957 - member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR.
In 1980, V.F. Sidoruk received the honorary title Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.
The artist died on December 16, 1997.
The works of Vladimir Fedorovich Sidoruk are presented in numerous museum, gallery and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
