Note: This work is a parody of John Everett Millais' painting 'A Dream of the Past: Sir Isumbras at the Ford', depicting a number of influential artistic figures, both contemporary and historical. These include the nineteenth-century artists Hunt, Rossetti, and Millais, riding on an ass which can be identified as a representation of John Ruskin, from the initials branded on its backside. In the background, playing by the pond, can be seen the figures of Michelangelo, Titian, and Raphael.
