Note: according to a later inscription on the mount, this work was ‘Exhibited 1835 (S.P.W.C) mentioned in Walker's Quarterly No.28 (1929) p.52 incorrectly referred to as “S. Tumberia” instead of “Trinitarian”’. The title of the work exhibited at the Society of Painters in Water Colours, 1835 (no.262) was ‘A Friar of the Order of Los Trinitarios Descalzos, Spain’. It had been bought by Captain Harcourt of St Leonards, near Windsor, for 18 gns.
