Note: Raphael Roussel was a British artist, the son of Theodore Casimir Roussel, himself a well-known French painter and engraver. Roussel worked as a portrait painter and produced a number of commercial artworks. He is perhaps best-known for his travel posters, which are iconic examples of the bold new style of graphic art pioneered in the early twentieth century. Roussel also created a number of dioramas for educational use in museums and produced landscapes, such as this one, although the medium of oil paint makes this work a more unusual example of the artist's work. Please refer to department for condition report
